Coil-built for my ceramics class. Took countless hours...days. But I like sgraffito. A gorgon, not necessarily Medusa, but was once a beautiful girl until she was cursed. I made up a story to go along with it that was kind of sappy.

Basically she lives on a deserted island off the coast of Italy or Greece, and men occasionally come and try to slay her by request, but her gaze turns them all to stone, so now the island has some pretty statuary decorating its beaches.

But she doesn't want to turn people to stone, she just can't control it. One day a man is exiled to the island and she comes upon him with his back turned because he is fishing.

Well, she sees he has a blindfold on. At first she thinks the mercenaries and would-be-heroes have gotten smart, but she sees he has no monster-slaying hero-type gear, and looks pretty poor. He's singing to himself as he fishes and she wonders if he knows that this island has a gorgon on it at all, since he is so calm. She approaches him and opens conversation and realizes that he is actually blind and no one bothered to tell him to never-ever-ever go to this island ever without a sword or some sort of pointy stick for the slaying of hideous snake-haired women. (she actually isn't hideous though, just her hair...is snakes. So I guess she just had hideous bad hair days.)

(...I wonder if the snakes ever accidentally tie themselves into knots...?)

Anyways, they both live there now and she obviously doesn't tell him she's a horrible monster that turns people to stone with the bat of her eye, and they become sort of friends.

Until they become sort of romantic friends in the guy's mind and he reaches out to run his fingers though her...snakes. SNAKES OH GOD SNAKES. WHY ARE THERE SNAKES WHERE HER HAIR SHOULD BE OH GOD

He's heard about gorgons and all, so he has a good freak out for a second or two and she bolts off him. He says he knows what she is, and that he's not afraid of her. She laughs self-depricatingly and says of course you have no reason to be afraid, you are blind; I cannot turn you to stone. And he says that's not why he's not afraid, it's that he knows she is a good person, etc, etc, cliche tragic love story.

...I wonder how the snakes would feel about him kissing her.

Ahhhh this is gorgeous!
I'm kind of a Greek geek, and I love the mini story :3
